Russell was an imperfect human being, even if Jehovah does consider him as one of the anointed (that between the 2 of them, and not for me to judge). His statement — "If future light should contradict current light then one of them is not light at all". — is not absolute.

In this context, I am reminded of the contrast between Proverbs 26:4 and the verse next to and following it.

(v.4) Do not answer anyone stupid according to his foolishness, that you yourself also may not become equal to him.

(v.5) Answer someone stupid according to his foolishness, that he may not become someone wise in his own eyes.

Vinny, I'm sure I will say Hi to Reniaa, and probably a whole lot more, if/ when I can meet her in person. A delightful gal if reality is like what I see on JWN. this was the same man at different times in his life yet he changed his name because he completely changed his ideals and goals too.

both were extremely zealous, both thought they were doing gods work, both thought they were working for the greater good.. acts 8:3 (new international version)3but saul began to destroy the church.

going from house to house, he dragged off men and women and put them in prison.. soul thought gods work was to destroy the christians but paul.... acts 20: 19i served the lord with great humility and with tears, although i was severely tested by the plots of the jews.

Stephen: all I can say is … context, context, context!!! My Post 451 was specific to the phrasing in Romans 8:9-10. Each of the other texts has their own particular context and phrasing, which change the meaning accordingly, I suggest. Saul the Pharisee would have been dogmatic about, or blinded to, these matters. Paul the Apostle would have reasoned these matters out very carefully, weighing the spirit of the words used in each setting according to a more spiritually-attuned range of factors.

Your wife sounds like a real keeper. Hopefully her influence can help calm her son and learn better respect for her example of love towards you. May you and your step-son yet be reconciled, despite this "temporary" volatility. Loving this special kind of enemy will be a test of character for all involved. I wish your family all the best, and may the rough patches be smoothed out as 1 Corinthians 13 is applied.
